Nxtra by Airtel: accelerating Africa’s digital transition with the construction of new high-capacity data centre facilities.

Data centres are key to meeting the hunger for data in our markets. In December 2023, we launched Nxtra by Airtel, our new data centre business, which will build one of the largest networks of high-capacity data centres in Africa. Coupled with our extensive fibre footprint, Nxtra will offer secure integrated data solutions to international businesses, large African enterprises, start-ups, SMEs and governments.

With a first centre now under construction in Lagos, Nigeria, Nxtra will expand to centres in major cities across our markets, boosting digital speeds and capacities and meeting data security and sovereignty requirements while enabling more local cloud services. The Lagos centre will plan 38 MW of total power and is expected to be live in mid-2025 – another big step on a journey to unlock our markets’ digital potential and empower Africa’s tech entrepreneurs.

This facility in Lagos will strategically connect to the extensive fibre optic cable footprint and provide end-to-end digital solutions to our valued customers.

Location: Eko Atlantic, Lagos, Nigeria. This is a safe and secure location which is well connected with cable landing stations and dense fibre network.

Capacity: hyperscale-ready building with 38 MW of total power and 3,000+ racks (high-power density and rack up to 25 KW).

Size: approximately 300,000 sq. ft. of built-up area, with G+ 5 structure and two data halls per floor.

Connectivity: carrier neutral and interconnected to global gateways, including traffic exchanges.

Power: multiple sub-stations within in few 100 meters with 33 KVA lines.

Efficiency: design PUE of < 1.4 delivered through efficient cooling systems.

Certifications: built to ensure robust security, sustainability and quality aligned with PCI-DSS, SOC,
ISO27001, ISO 20001, ISO 9001, ISO 22301, ISO 14001, ISO 45001.
